Ugandan Friends Project

Looking for something fun and meaningful to do with your kids this summer?

I am heading across the globe to be with 75 incredible Orphans and your family can be a part of it.

Join us for our Ugandan Friends Project!

Dear friend;

August 3rd I am leaving to go be with 75 amazing Orphans in Jinja Uganda at the Ugandan Orphan Childcare Ministry for 2 weeks.  One of the projects I am in charge of is the Ugandan Friends Project.  Most all these children became orphans from war, disease, and death and have no living relatives to care for them. Their only family is the incredible workers at the Orphanage and each other.   They are some of the most happy loving children you will meet.   Many love to sing, dance and of course play soccer.  They love love love receiving a note or letter from their sponsor family, but sadly some rarely get mail.

Twice a year we would like to bring the orphan kids a card that would encourage them from a “FRIEND”  across the globe.  How cool would it be for your child to know they have a friend in Uganda.  But we also know how busy your life is so we have made it SUPER SIMPLE for your child to make a friend across the globe.

Step 1:  Have your child write (or say and you write or type) a short message about themselves. Their name, likes/dislikes, what they like to do for fun, etc.,  along with a brief well wish, prayer, or message for an orphan child around their age.

Here are some examples from a 16 and 8 year old.

Step 2:  Have your child draw or paint a picture, write a poem, create something, design something they love, or want to share with their Ugandan friend.   Then take a good picture of their creation. If drawing isn’t your child’s favorite thing then have them share a picture of their favorite lego set they built, or picture of them playing their favorite sport.

Step 3:
  Email a picture of your child, a picture of their creation,  and their message to lisa@starrhealth.com.   Please include the child’s first name and age and your full name and address.  Your child’s first name and age will the shared with their Ugandan friend.  (Your full name and address will only be used by the Starr Health team to send your child’s return response for their Ugandan Friend.)  Then, we will create a durable Ugandan Friend card for one of the 75 orphans.  If you have a creative child please feel free to do more than one card but email each card separately.
This is what the 5×7 cards look like.

Step 4 OPTIONAL :  Donate $5 or more by clicking here and making a “General Donation”.  Please indicate that your donation is for the “Ugandan Friends Project” and your donation will help our August Service Team to gift the children with some “treats” like a party with fruit and candy that they don’t normally get.  Your donation will also help to cover some special and urgent needs of the growing kids.

———————————-
CHECK THE MAIL IN LATE AUGUST:   In late August look for a special card picture and message from your child’s Ugandan Friend.

Our hope is to continue a bi-yearly friends exchange as our Service Teams go to the Orphanage each year.
